SINGAPORE — A 19-year-old accused of killing his father earlier this month at a block of flats in Yishun will be remanded further for psychiatric assessment.

Sylesnar Seah Jie Kai was charged last Wednesday (Oct 12) with the murder of his father, 47-year-old Eddie Seah Wee Teck, between the fourth and fifth floor of Block 653, Yishun Avenue 4 on Oct 10.

Seah, who appeared in court on Wednesday via video link wearing a red polo t-shirt, looked calm.

He is represented by defence counsels Sunil Sudheesan and Joyce Khoo from law firm Quahe Woo & Palmer.

The prosecution said on Wednesday that the police have completed preliminary investigations and the next stage would be for Seah to be remanded for psychiatric assessment.

District Judge Terence Tay agreed to this and ordered Seah to be remanded for another three weeks at Changi Prison Complex Medical Centre.

Seah's lawyer, Ms Khoo, did not raise objections to this. She also thanked the police for allowing her client to see his family on Tuesday.

Seah will return to court on Nov 9.

Mr Sudheesan had previously made three applications for access to his client on Oct 12, when Seah was first charged. He was told to file written submissions and return the next day.

However, the court rejected the defence lawyer's request to have access to him before police investigations were completed.

If convicted of murder, Seah could be sentenced to death.
