KUALA LUMPUR — Singapore’s LionsXII upset the form book to win the Malaysia FA Cup after a 3-1 win over Kelantan at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur today (May 23).

The Singapore side took the lead in 7min after Izzidin Shafiq sent a defence splitting through ball from the right flank to Faris Ramli, who used his pace to latch onto the ball before rounding keeper Khairul Fahmi to open the scoring.

The LionsXII were under pressure for most of the first half but went into the break holding a single goal advantage.

The highly fancied Kelantan stormed back in the 63rd minute after a well-taken goal from Wan Zack. But the Singapore side stormed back to take the lead in the 80min through a fantastic effort from Sahil Suhaimi.

Sahil then sealed the match after slotting a penalty in the first minute of injury time to earn the LionsXII their first trophy of the season.

The LionsXII will be returning to Singapore tomorrow via SilkAir Flight MI329. The plane is expected to land at Changi Airport's Terminal 2 at 6.10pm. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
