Rio Ferdinand, Sergio Aguero experience Singapore during selfie challenge

SINGAPORE — English Premier League stars Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Aguero sampled a bit of Singapore in the SG Game On! Ultimate Selfie Challenge today (May 15).

The duo tried their hand at speaking “Singlish”, tasted selected popular local hawker fare including fried carrot cake and chicken rice, learnt some basic Tai Chi moves, and showed off their football skills.

As part of the challenge, they posted their experiences and photos on Twitter, and encourage fans to retweet them. Ferdinand won the challenge, garnering the most number of retweets.

Asked about their favourite parts of the challenge, Ferdinand said, “Carrot cake was very nice, that was my favourite. To taste the food was my favourite part of the challenge.”

Aguero offered a more slightly unconventional answer— his favourite in the challenge was the durian. He also said that he hoped to come back to Singapore and learn more about the culture here.

Former England defender Ferdinand, 35, is set to end his 12-year stay at Manchester United after the club decided not to offer him a new contract.

For Aguero, 25, this brief visit to Singapore is a short respite just days after winning the Premier League title with Manchester City.

After this, he will link up with Argentina’s national side, where he has been named in coach Alejandro Sabella’s provisional 30-men squad for next month’s World Cup in Brazil.
