Making Fetch happen in InFamous: First Light

LOS ANGELES — InFamous: Second Son was the first true next-gen video game for the PlayStation 4 when it was released in March, and as we head towards the launches of some huge new titles next month, a stand-alone downloadable content (DLC) for InFamous: Second Son has been released just in time to make that wait more bearable.

Titled InFamous: First Light, the game is a prequel to Second Son — which focused on the story of Delsin Rowe — and spotlights Fetch, a Neon-powered vigilante whom Delsin runs into in Second Son.

“This is Fetch’s prequel, and we see her in two places,” said director Nate Fox from development studio Sucker Punch at E3 in June. “One is kind of the back streets of Seattle where she’s leading a pretty hard life. And also in Curdun Cay Station which is this high, alpine prison, where they put anyone with superpowers.”

Player feedback had prompted Sucker Punch to explore Curdun Cay and also helped ensure that Fetch was the focus for the DLC.

As a stand-along DLC, First Light isn’t just a regular expansion of the story in Second Son so players will get to fully explore Fetch’s abilities — many of which Sucker Punch had to cut when making Second Son.

“Delsin’s powers in Second Son are different than Fetch’s powers in First Light,” said Fox. “Players are going to have to master a new set of abilities and get the joy of discovering new abilities too. We didn’t have time to put them in Second Son, and frankly the neon powers in Second Son were already pretty strong, but with Fetch’s story we don’t have to worry about balancing as much powers, we can go crazy and let her be as potent as possible.”

Actress Laura Bailey, who portrayed Fetch in Second Son, reprises her role in the DLC. She said: “I felt like Fetch was such an interesting character, and there was so much more to tell with her.”

“To get to come in and explore the journey that makes her the way she is in Second Son was phenomenal — you don’t always get to do that with your characters. So I felt really lucky and privileged to get to this for this game.”

InFamous: First Light is now available on the PlayStation store for S$18.80. PlayStation Plus members get a 10 per cent discount for a limited period.
