Review: Pioneer’s new headphones provides big bass

SINGAPORE — Pioneer’s latest earphones might be enough to bring a club right into your head, but for those who hate wearing in-ears or just prefer to show off what they are wearing, its newest range of headphones might be the solution.

SINGAPORE — Pioneer’s latest earphones might be enough to bring a club right into your head, but for those who hate wearing in-ears or just prefer to show off what they are wearing, its newest range of headphones might be the solution.

The SE-MX9 and SE-MX7 are similarly-styled and come with contemporary designs that somewhat echo the extremely popular Beats headphones, which were recently acquired by Apple.

But any similarity stops there, as these headphones feature both clear audio and impressive bass that more than outdo Beats headphones.

The MX9 feature detailed highs and good textured bass that are enjoyable no matter what genre is being played. There is a slight lack of warmth in the vocals that stops the headphones from being a complete package, but, in general, they are surprisingly fun, especially thanks to the impactful bass.

The MX7 are slightly smaller and less good looking, but audio-wise, they almost match up to the MX9. While the highs are not as clear and the bass a little boomier, they are still fun to listen to. There is a dial to adjust the level of bass according to your preference, but we left it at almost maximum — at the lowest, the MX7 are just too polite.

Both headphones have ear cups that sit on your ears and it can get warm after a while, but it should mostly not be an issue. Both also come with removable, tangle-free cables, and the MX9 come with a spare, longer cable for home listening.

Good style and good bass — for headphones that focus on club beats, Pioneer has got it just right.

The SE-MX7 and SE-MX9 are available at S$299 and S$399 respectively.
