Drone racing: The real-life video game
Gardens by the Bay was transformed into a race track on Tuesday (Nov 26) for the first professional drone race in Singapore.
Four top Drone Racing League (DRL) pilots competed for the first prize of the DRL Allianz: Singapore Champions race.
They flew drones at speeds of up to 145km/h through a complex three-dimensional track in the Flower Dome.
“It’s a very immersive experience,” said Alex Vanover, the youngest competitor in the DRL.
The 19-year-old from the United States was describing the e-sport that combines both virtual and real elements.
“You forget, for the time that you’re flying, whether you’re actually sitting or standing on the ground.”
