Act against hotel that offered dirty rooms to guests on stay-home notices

I was aghast to read the report, "Park Hotel Alexandra apologises to guests on stay-home notice after complaints of dirty rooms" (Sept 22).

Dirty rooms greeted some hotel guests serving their stay-home notices at Park Hotel Alexandra recently. These photos show the situation before one guest, Mr Eugene Wee, vacuumed the carpeted floor of his room (left) and after he did so (right).

I was aghast to read the report, "Park Hotel Alexandra apologises to guests on stay-home notice after complaints of dirty rooms" (Sept 22).

It is logical that hotels catering to guests on stay-home notices are among the likeliest places for Covid-19 infection, as they receive travellers arriving into Singapore.

I would expect the cleanliness and conditions of the rooms used for these guests to be many times better than those of a regular hotel room.

It is disconcerting to note that not only was the cleanliness not up to the mark, but some guests had no recourse when faced with the prospect of a dirty room. They had to clean the place on their own, exposing themselves to the potential risk of coronavirus.

While the hotel has “sincerely apologised”, this is a serious lapse and I hope that the authorities will take action against the hotel and prevent a recurrence.
