Capping special SkillsFuture Credit top-up at age 60 contradicts Govt’s lifelong learning stance

I refer to the SkillsFuture mid-career support package announced at this year’s Budget.

The age criterion of 40 to 60 years to qualify for an extra S$500 top-up in SkillsFuture Credit is discriminatory to those above 60, who also need help in making mid-career transitions.

There should be no upper limit.

May I suggest removing the age limit of 60, and allowing those 40 and older access to the sum? The validity until the end of 2025 can stay.

I am older than 60. The ability to tap this extra S$500 gives people like me the option to upgrade our skills for a career transition if the need arises.

The economy is changing and unpredictable. It is therefore important for older Singaporeans to think of other career paths and remain in the workforce for as long as they can.  

I have been a freelance trainer for 22 years, and have always encouraged my trainees to adopt a never-stop-learning attitude.

Having an age limit contradicts the Government’s stand on lifelong learning.
