Cut water use during dry spell

The prolonged dry spell is a cause for concern. Fish stocks have died, while vegetable farms are experiencing ballooning costs and low yields.

Across the island, the grass has turned yellow and trees have shed leaves. Reservoirs are running low and desalination and NEWater plants have been running at full capacity.

Malaysia has implemented a water-rationing exercise. However, many in Singapore continue on as if there is no cause for concern.

Just this week, as I was driving, I saw at least five long driveways being washed. That is a colossal waste of a precious resource. Until it starts raining again, I ask that people desist from washing cars, patios or driveways.

Shorter showers and explaining to domestic helpers why we need to reduce water usage when doing chores would be extremely helpful.
