I have noticed that the tables and seats at Maxwell Food Centre in Chinatown, which I visit weekly, are always very clean compared with some other hawker centres.

There are about five long rows of hawker stalls at Maxwell Food Centre. A cleaner is stationed near each row at all times to take care of the cleanliness of the tables and seats from one end to the other.

Once a diner finishes his food and leaves the table, the cleaner immediately moves in to clear and sanitise the tables and seats.

Such deployment of cleaners is not observed at most other hawker centres.

I eat at the popular Kovan Market and Food Centre and Chinatown Complex Food Centre once every two weeks or so.

Most of the time, the tables are not cleared of dirty bowls for a long period. It is also difficult to find a cleaner to clean the dirty tables.

I have had to use tissue to wipe the tables.

Maxwell Food Centre, with its standard of cleanliness and deployment of cleaners to take charge of each section, is a good example for other hawker centres to follow.
