Let S’pore passport continue to be a source of pride
It is heartening to read that the Singapore passport is ranked so highly (Singapore, Germany passports tie as most powerful passports in the world: Passport Index; April 19, online).
It is heartening to read that the Singapore passport is ranked so highly (Singapore, Germany passports tie as most powerful passports in the world: Passport Index; April 19, online).
Singaporeans should be proud of this.
That we are granted visa-free access to so many countries is no mean feat. We save time on applying for visas and on the attendant interviews at foreign consulates.
Our passports also grant us pre-arrival registration online and clearance upon arrival in selected destinations. Hence we can travel at short notice. I surmise that this is a result of years of cultivating trust with nations far and wide.
Many may have heard of how clean and law-abiding we are. As representatives of Singapore, we may have contributed to this goodwill by observing customs of foreign lands that may be different from our own.
That we adapt quickly to foreign cuisines reflects this too. Our upbringing in a multi-ethnic society, perhaps from a young age, has honed our cultural and religious sensitivities.
We are welcome overseas because we do not travel with ideological fervour or impose our values on others. Furthermore, our currency, which is sought-after by many foreign money changers, aids our travel.
When we are armed with our passport and currency, the world is our oyster. Let us continue to guard our good name so that we may someday travel without visas to all countries in the world.
