We refer to Mr Ng Gim Yeow’s letter, “POSB should have sought consent to disclose data” (July 4).

We would like to reiterate that the privacy and security of our customers’ personal data are of the utmost importance to us.

The bank has safeguards in place to protect personal data stored with us. We wish to clarify that we do not disclose our customers’ personal data to third parties without their consent.

Upon activating the PAssion POSB debit card, customers would have agreed to be enrolled in a PAssion Card membership, and hence, consented to the bank’s sharing relevant information with the People’s Association for the sole purpose of creating this membership.

This is indicated on the card information slip that our customers receive with any new or replacement card.

We have reached out to Mr Ng to address his concerns, and apologised for the inconvenience he experienced with his debit card application. We will review how card information is presented, so that it is clear and intuitively understood.

Customers may call our 24-hour customer service centre on 1800 111 1111 if they have card-related queries.
