The writer wants rail operator SMRT to explore ways to reduce noise from overnight work at Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.

Since last month, residents have had to put up with noise from what appear to be tunnel ventilation fans when maintenance work is done from midnight till dawn at least three or four times a week. The work still continues during the circuit breaker.
As the equipment may be ageing, the noise has been significant, causing residents to suffer sleepless nights.
While we would accept that the equipment may be needed for rail operations, there must be more consideration given to people in nearby residential areas. Some are just metres from the station.
Can rail operator SMRT look into ways to reduce the noise, such as building noise barriers outside the station, or better still, replacing the equipment that is causing the disturbance?
