The Government is encouraging digital payment in many organisations. Perhaps it could also look into the payment modes at the ticket offices run by TransitLink at MRT stations and bus interchanges.

For one thing, TransitLink ticket offices accept only cash but not mobile phone payment, not even the electronic payment Nets. Certain credit or debit cards may be used but only at selected offices.

Then there is the ruling that seniors can buy the monthly PAssion Silver concession pass seven days before the expiry date and not earlier.

It makes no sense for a company such as TransitLink that serves a wide network to still have such inflexible and archaic arrangements that cause inconvenience to commuters, especially seniors who have to make wasted trips to the office without realising there is the seven-day rule.
In such times when contactless payments are encouraged to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it is best to start thinking about new ways of doing things.
