Why bother to queue for new dollar notes?

Waiting to be served in the bank is a hassle before Chinese New Year. Customers queueing for new dollar notes outnumber those who are engaged in other transactions, resulting in long queues.

Waiting to be served in the bank is a hassle before Chinese New Year. Customers queueing for new dollar notes outnumber those who are engaged in other transactions, resulting in long queues.

Customers with more important matters for bank staff to attend to are inconvenienced greatly. Only a few banks open a counter solely for those wanting new notes.

I cannot understand why some people bother to queue for almost an hour or so just to get new notes. The value of, say, a new $10 note is the same as one that is not so new.
