Why such short notice for MDA licensing scheme?

The Media Development Authority (MDA) announced a new online licensing scheme on Tuesday, which took effect on Saturday.

While the rationale for the scheme seems acceptable, what does not seem to have been explained is the very short time period between the announcement of the scheme and the effective date of the scheme.

This leaves me to wonder whether there would have been less opposition to the scheme had a longer period been given. Singapore’s populace today, especially netizens, seems to give special regard to being given adequate notice and consultation opportunity.

Undoubtedly, the authorities could say that there is no need to seek consultation on all its initiatives, but it is another thing to not give an adequate notice period prior to the scheme.
