WP town council issue a reminder to vote mindfully
I refer to the latest reports on Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (“Workers’ Party links audit issues to post-poll handover; MND hits back” and “Residents split over town council’s financial statements”, Feb 15).

The town council’s financial and audit affairs reinforce the need for residents and, particularly, voters to place town management and their town councils’ affairs in high priority when deciding which party should represent them in Parliament.
AHPETC Chairman Sylvia Lim must be hoping Singaporeans believe that it is facing some handover issues from Aljunied Town Council.
Perhaps the Workers’ Party’s blunder was to combine Hougang and Aljunied into one town council and then add Punggol East to its fold. Would the audit problems have occurred or could they have been avoided if each constituency had its own town council?
And how long more does AHPETC need to reconcile its accounts? Nearly three years have passed since the General Election; the next one is in 2016, maybe even earlier.
This is not a good sign for an opposition party striving for a First World Parliament.
AHPETC should put its house in order soon.
