AirAsia staff dies onboard flight from KL to Bandung

KUALA LUMPUR — A staff of AirAsia died while on duty during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bandung, Indonesia on Wednesday (Jan 24).

KUALA LUMPUR — A staff of AirAsia died while on duty during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bandung, Indonesia on Wednesday (Jan 24).

As a result, the flight, AK416, had to be diverted and landed at the Senai International Airport in Johor.

The low-cost carrier, in a media statement, confirmed that flight AK416 from Kuala Lumpur to Bandung was diverted to the Senai airport due to a 'medical emergency'.

The company said the AirAsia staff on duty was given immediate medical treatment upon arrival, but was later pronounced dead by a doctor.

"The AirAsia family is saddened by the loss of our staff. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family.

"We will provide all the necessary support to the family in this difficult period," said the company.

AirAsia said flight AK416 later departed from Senai at 9am and arrived at the Husein Sastranegara International Airport, Indonesia at 10.11am.

The company said the safety of its passengers is its utmost priority and it will continue to provide the best services possible when faced with situations such as this.

Meanwhile, Kulai district police chief Superintendent Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, when contacted, said AirAsia has lodged a police report on the incident.

He said the deceased was an Indonesian man, aged 46. Details on the man's designation within the company was unavailable at press time.
