KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's Ministry of Health reported 150 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Sept 27) amid growing concern over the rise in the infection rate in recent weeks.

Only four of the cases were imported while 146 were local transmission, the ministry said in a Facebook post on Sunday evening. Active cases now stand at 950.

The number of deaths also rose to 134, with one new fatality reported. Meanwhile, six patients are now in intensive care units.

Of the fresh cases, most were recorded in Sabah, where new clusters have emerged prior to and amid a state election that concluded on Saturday.

Malaysia's health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a tweet on Sunday evening that 124 of the freshly reported cases were from the eastern state.

Meanwhile, 11 cases were reported in Selangor, the most after Sabah.

Putrajaya, the country’s administrative capital, followed with four new cases while Pahang recorded four. Johor and Sarawak recorded two new cases each.

The country’s total recorded cases are now at 10,919, although 9,835 or 90.07 per cent of these have since recovered and been discharged. MALAY MAIL
