KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak gave an assurance today (July 9) that the government will ensure the truth prevails in the ongoing investigation into alleged financial improprieties surrounding state-owned 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Mr Najib, who has also found himself in the spotlight after US-based Wall Street Journal (WSJ) linked him to an elaborate money trail involving transfers of nearly US$700 million (S$944.7 million) from out of 1MDB’s fund, urged Malaysians not to believe everything that is reported and circulated online.

“Don’t listen to nonsense… too much nonsense in the social media.”

“We will ensure that truth emerges in the end,” Mr Najib said in a speech during a break-of-fast event at the Sultan Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi mosque in Gombak here.

He also advised the people to wait for the Auditor-General’s report on the matter.

“If you say billions of funds belonging to 1MDB is missing, wait and listen to the Auditor-General’s report, whether that is true or not.”

“I don’t want to announce it, we wait for him,” Mr Najib added. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
