BUKIT TENGAH (Penang) — A man was found dead — with his hands and legs tied and face covered — beside his bed at the Taman Pauh flats in Penang on Monday (March 9) night.

Police were alerted to the discovery after a neighbour made a call at 9.45pm to report a stench coming from one of the flat units.

Seberang Prai Tengah district acting police chief Superintendent Mohd Mustafa Bidin said that when police arrived at the unit, they found the front grille door locked, but the main door was ajar and the lights as well as the fan in the living room were on.

“As soon as we gained entry to the house, we found a man lying on his back beside his bed, with both his hands and legs bound. His head was also covered with a pillow case.

“(Based on the condition of the remains) — the man’s body was stiff (rigor mortis had set in) and was emitting a foul odour — we believe he died several days ago” he said, adding that the house was in a state of disarray.

He also said a wallet and cell phone belonging to the deceased, who was in his late 40s, were found at the scene.

“We are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Mr Mustafa added.

Police have launched a manhunt in search of the man’s attacker(s), and urged anyone with information on the case to come forward. NEW STRAITS TIMES
