PETALING JAYA ― Fifty-two luxury handbags were seized from the private home of former prime minister Najib Razak on Wednesday (May 16), a police report revealed.
The list does not include the 300 boxes of handbags seized from Mr Najib’s condominium units at Pavilion Residences on Thursday night.
Among the seized items include 16 Chanel, eight Versace, 10 Gucci, five Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabana and Louis Vuitton handbags.
Apart from the handbags, 10 luxury watches such as those from Rolex, Hublot and Patek Philippe were also seized during the raid.
Local and foreign currency in cash including British pounds sterling, ringgit and Sri Lankan rupees were also confiscated. They totalled £2,700 (S$4,900), RM537,000.00, and 2.8 million Sri Lankan rupees.
The high-end goods and cash were found in the surau (prayer room), storeroom, and in a bedroom occupied by one of Mr Najib’s children.
“The items were confiscated because we have reason to believe that all the items were involved in a money-laundering offence under section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001,” stated a police report sighted by the Malay Mail.
The section prohibits the direct or indirect engagement in a transaction that involves proceeds of an unlawful activity or instrumentalities of an offence. MALAY MAIL
