KUALA LUMPUR — An Israeli man who is believed to have entered Malaysia to kill the head of a rival criminal family will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in Malaysia on Friday (April 12).

The suspect, identified as Shalom Avitan, was initially detained at a hotel in Jalan Ampang on March 27 with six handguns — including a Glock 19 Marine, Glock 17 Gen 4, Smith and Wesson, Sig Sauer and Stoeger — and 200 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Investigations found that Avitan entered Malaysia on March 12 using a French passport via a flight from the United Arab Emirates.

Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the police will seek an extension of the remand for the suspect.

Seperately, a husband and wife, aged 42 and 40, were arrested at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor on March 29 after they were suspected of selling the firearms to Avitan.

The couple have since been charged in court.

Aside from Avitan and the couple, police have also arrested 12 others linked to the Israeli man. NEW STRAITS TIMES
