Comptroller of the royal household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the deadline was extended following a request from party and coalition leaders, which was received by the palace on Monday.
He said the administration of the country was ongoing with the caretaker prime minister, in line with the principles outlined for the caretaker government.
"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong urges the people to pray for the process of the formation of the new government, appointment of the prime minister to go on smoothly in the interest of the country," he said.
It was previously reported that the political parties were told to submit their coalition numbers and PM candidates to the palace by 2pm on Monday. NEW STRAITS TIMES
