KUANTAN — A Malaysian woman, believed to be mentally unsound, slit the throat of her two-year-old son at their house in Felda Jengka in Maran near here on Sunday (June 17) night.
The victim, the youngest of three siblings, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bandar Jengka hospital after he was believed to have his throat slit with a sharp object.
The horrific discovery was made by the victim's father who caught his wife in the act in the bedroom about 8.40pm.
The man pushed his wife aside before he grabbed his son and rushed him to the hospital.
The victim was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the hospital before they lodged a police report about 9.45pm.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said the 31-year-old suspect has been arrested.
"Initial investigations revealed that she was in a state of hallucination during the incident. "Checks revealed she has never been treated for mental illnesses or has any previous records," he said, adding police will record the husband's statement.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
