KUALA LUMPUR — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday (Nov 25) said that his coalition will serve in a "check-and-balance" role to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, in a sign of acceptance of Mr Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister.

Mr Muhyiddin's congratulatory remarks come a day after he expressed his refusal to accept Mr Anwar's appointment.

Mr Anwar took his oath as Prime Minister before Malaysia's King on Thursday.

“With the federal government led by Pakatan Harapan, PN will play its role as a check-and-balance in Parliament by bringing the voices of the people in line with Malaysia's parliamentary democracy,” Mr Muhyiddin said on Friday.

Mr Muhyiddin's statement also seemed to distance his coalition from forming a unity government, which the King had asked for.

This was due to a deadlock between parties which saw no majority reached, after the country's 15th general election ended inconclusively on Saturday.

Mr Muhyiddin refused the request and stated that the PN coalition would stick to its stand of not working with PH “whatever the reason”. MALAY MAIL
