Najib's son Nazifuddin eyes Umno Youth deputy chief post

KUALA LUMPUR — Former prime minister Najib Razak's son, Mr Mohd Nazifuddin, aimed to contest the Umno Youth deputy chief post in the party's upcoming election.

KUALA LUMPUR — Former prime minister Najib Razak's son, Mr Mohd Nazifuddin, aimed to contest the Umno Youth deputy chief post in the party's upcoming election.

Mr Nazifuddin, who is the Olympic Council of Malaysia secretary-general said he hoped to help the party attract more youths to join and strengthen the party.

"I am aware of the challenges in attracting them. (However,) as a member of a sporting council, it is an advantage for me to approach the youths and inspire them to join us," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 29).

He added that focus would also be given to young voters and school leavers to ensure they could help the party win in the upcoming elections.

"I also want to contribute towards sports enhancement, exploring talent and skills, boost economic status and provide various beneficial activities for the youths. With this, I seek support from the Umno Youth nationwide for success."

Meanwhile, Umno is scheduled to hold its party elections to appoint its new office bearers from Feb 1 to March 18.

The term for the existing office bearers was supposed to end on June 30, 2021. NEW STRAITS TIMES
