Negri Sembilan restaurant raided by police for allegedly selling dog meat

NILAI — The police in Negri Sembilan said on Saturday (Aug 3) that it has raided a restaurant in Kampung Baru which allegedly sells dog meat as part of its exotic menu, following a tip-off from members of the public.

During the raid at 4.30pm on Friday (Aug 2), police found several pieces of meat believed to be dog meat. They were found stored in the freezer in the restaurant’s kitchen.

Investigations, however, revealed that the restaurant had the necessary license to sell exotic foods.

The restaurant owner claimed that the canine meat was imported from abroad and only sold to customers who made advance reservations. The meat is said to be consumed by customers to cure asthma.

Nilai district police Superintendent Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar said police received a report on the sale of dog meat at the restaurant and a team was immediately dispatched.

"We have conducted an investigation and submitted the case to the relevant department for further action," he said when contacted in Nilai on Saturday.

Negri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Wan Mat Wan Harun when contacted said the restaurant has a license to sell exotic food but dog meat is not on the list.

The Star newspaper, citing another report in Kwong Wah Yit Poh, reported on Friday that a pet groomer from Seremban had uploaded several audio recordings and photos of dogs held in cages at the restaurant on the border of Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

According to the report, the man had brought reporters to the restaurant on Wednesday but were told the dogs had been sold. NEW STRAITS TIMES
