KUALA LUMPUR — The parents of toddlers seen in a video playing on the window ledge of a condominium unit have been summoned by police.

In the 10-second video, a girl, said to be aged 4, was seen standing on the ledge with both her hands spread out, followed by a younger boy, believed to be aged 2. The clip has since gone viral online.

Wangsa Maju police chief superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said police detected the short clip, uploaded by Facebook user Reffi Lia, that showed two children, playing on the ledge without adult supervision, in a condominium in Jalan Langkawi, Taman Setapak, at 4pm yesterday.

He said following that, a report was made by the city Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11).

"Upon the report, D11 initiated an investigation. The parents were interviewed yesterday and investigations found that both the father and mother of the children were at home during the incident, but were unaware that the siblings were playing on the balcony," he said in a statement today.

Mr Ashari said the parents were released last night after their statements were recorded.

"The investigating officer will refer the case to the deputy public prosecutor.

"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children."

He urged those with information on the case to contact the Wangsa Maju police headquarters at 03-92899222 or the City police Hotline at 03-21159999.

He also reminded parents not to leave their children unattended. Doing so is an offence under the Child Act 2001. NEW STRAITS TIMES
