KUALA LUMPUR — Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali has asked well-wishers to stop sending congratulatory gifts as she and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot accommodate these, said Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir.

Ms Marina said her mother was deeply appreciative of the messages and presents but stressed that it was also the Pakatan Harapan’s policy to accept only limited categories of gifts.

“She has asked me to request that there be no more gifts sent because one, the rule in the Pakatan Harapan government is that no politician is allowed to receive any gifts other than flowers or food, and two, as modest as the gifts might be, they do take up a lot of space.

“My parents are not moving into Sri Perdana but instead are going to continue living at their own home. It's comfortable but really does not have space for any more stuff,” she wrote on Facebook.

Ms Marina added that her mother was aware of the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, but still insisted that the gifting must stop.

Those who insisted of presenting them with tokens should instead make a donation to a charity of their choosing, she said.

“That would please her very much. Thank you!” MALAY MAIL
