CHINA — A video of a bride in China has gone viral after she reportedly invited her ex-lovers to her wedding banquet and seated them together at a table with the placard “table for ex-boyfriends”.

The wedding, held in Hubei, China on Jan 8, had a table reserved for special guests — the bride’s ex-boyfriends, Chinese news aggregator Yipin reported.

The table of five men were shown in a video looking awkward and out of place, barely conversing with each other. One guy whips out his phone to record the event, while another casts his eyes downwards to his food.

Social media users on Chinese microblogging site Weibo teased that the bride ostensibly had a “type” because the men at the table had uncanny resemblances to each other.

One user joked: “Do I need to get my eyes checked? The ex-boyfriends all feel like they have the same face, hahah.”

There were also women seen seated on the table, leading viewers to conclude that the bride had brazenly invited her ex-boyfriends’ partners as well.

The video, posted on Jan 9, received 2.9 million views and more than 4,000 likes on Weibo.

Social media users praised the groom for being open-minded, while someone questioned if the bride’s parents-in-law would be okay with this.

Viewers also applauded the bravery of the ex-boyfriends in attending the wedding: “One dares to invite, the other dares to go.”

Online users were guessing that the whole video was a setup, given the hastily scribbled sign used.

One wrote: “It should be a prank. Who handwrites their name tags for their wedding?”

Another said: “This is a prank. It’s obviously written at the last minute to make a video just for fun.”

In June last year, a woman in China’s Guangdong province made headlines for gathering all nine of the men in past relationships at an “ex-boyfriends’ table” at her wedding. They were later photographed holding a banner that read: “All ex-boyfriends wish Ting a happy wedding”.

The bride later explained that it was a joke and that the nine men were her childhood friends.
