SINGAPORE — Looks like Singapore is fast becoming Hollywood’s latest shooting destination.

Hot on the heels of the announcement that X-Men star Hugh Jackman and company will be gracing our shores for the X-Men: Days of Future Past premiere, Twentieth Century Fox has also revealed that new film Agent 47 will soon be filming in Singapore.

The move is based on the hugely popular videogame series Hitman and is a follow-up to the top-grossing 2007 film Hitman starring Timothy Olyphant.

The film company released this statement:

“If you see Hollywood lights, camera and action on the streets of Singapore, it will be 20th Century Fox and the film Agent 47, the first major studio film to shoot here. Agent 47 aka Hitman stars Rupert Friend (from TV series Homeland), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones), Thomas Kretschnmann (Stalingrad, Captain America), and introduces a young beautiful actress Hannah Ware.

“We will also be able to announce a very well-known Chinese actress starring in the film next week, so stay tuned. Agent 47 is directed by Aleksander Bach who’s most known for his spectacular TV commercials.”

TODAY understands that both Friend and Quinto will be in Singapore for the shoot, which is slated to begin around April 30.

Little has been revealed about the plot for the movie — or indeed, even how Quinto will factor into it — but we do know that Friend will be stepping into the role of the titular bald elite assassin.

Filming had actually already begun in Berlin last month. The late Fast And Furious star Paul Walker was originally attached to the film to star in the titular role before his tragic death last year.

Brit actor Friend is best known for playing Mr Wickham in 2005’s Pride And Prejudice, Prince Albert in 2009’s The Young Victoria and, of course, Peter Quinn in the multiple award winning television drama Homeland.

Everyone knows Quinto as the enigmatic Spock in the new Star Trek movies, but some might also remember him as the scary Sylar in the hit TV show Heroes.

TODAY also understands that more details will be forthcoming about how long the cast and crew will be filming in Singapore but for now, it’s slated to be for a week.

As to which famous locales they’ll be filming at, we are told “there’s tight security on hand right now and the locations are tightly wrapped for now”.

Earlier this month, a casting call looking for featured actors, extras and stand-in actors appeared on various blogs. According to these, “the 20th Century Fox production will be filming in Singapore from April 28 to May 12” and was on the lookout for mostly Caucasian and pan-Asians. The email contact pointed to Infinite Frameworks Studios.

So film fans, are you one of those who managed to snag a part in the film? Are you excited? We most certainly are. Looks like the bid to turn the Hitman game series into a film franchise is well on its way and Singapore gets to play a part in it.
