SINGAPORE — Shoppers can expect a new retail mall at the SingPost Centre next to Paya Lebar MRT Station in the second half of this year, which will feature leading brands, family entertainment outlets and enrichment centres.

With a net lettable area of about 176,500 sqf, the mall spans five levels, with household names such as supermarket NTUC FairPrice, cinema chain Golden Village, and food court operator Kopitiam having already signed up for retail space, Singapore Post (SingPost) said yesterday. The retail mall completes the omni-channel e-commerce experience by bringing together retailers, customers and e-commerce last-mile fulfilment, it said.

The SingPost Centre will also house the new General Post Office (GPO). The GPO, with a footprint of about 3,200 sqf, will combine counter service with technology-enabled innovations such as POPStations and eSAM machines. Postal and e-commerce logistics customers will be able to enjoy greater flexibility and convenience during and outside normal working hours, SingPost said.

SingPost Centre sits at the heart of Paya Lebar Central, earmarked by the Urban Redevelopment Authority for development into a commercial hub as part of decentralisation plans by the Government, which aim to provide jobs closer to homes, and cut congestion and commuting time to and from the city centre.

Paya Lebar Central, which will house about 5.4 million sqf of commercial space when fully developed, is also near the Geylang Serai civic area that is expected to host a multitude of community events throughout the year. These factors are expected to boost the population catchment and footfall to the SingPost Centre retail mall, SingPost said.

Shoppers will be spoilt for choice, with other malls in the immediate vicinity including Paya Lebar Square and the upcoming Paya Lebar Quarter. Last year, Australia-listed real estate giant Lendlease unveiled its Paya Lebar Quarter project, consisting of a retail mall, three office towers and a residential complex. The commercial and retail components are slated for completion in the second half of next year, and the residential component by the first half of 2019, Lendlease said.

CapitaLand, through its wholly owned unit CapitaLand Mall Asia, will manage the new retail mall at SingPost Centre, as Singapore’s largest listed developer boosts its presence in the eastern part of the island, where it owns and manages Tampines Mall and Bedok Mall, as well as Jewel Changi Airport, which is scheduled to open early in 2019.
