SINGAPORE — This year’s President’s Star Charity (PSC), set to take place on Nov 2, looks to be a variety show with plenty of eclectic local and regional flavour.

Now in its 11th year, the two-and-half hour show will see a mix of performers doing everything from straight-forward musical performances to a lip synch battle and even a dance-off, with the likes of Yuna and The Sam Willows providing the musical component.

As one of a few Asian artists who managed to break the American market, Yuna has been making waves around the world with her albums Yuna and Nocturnal, as well as a stable of English and Malay hits under her belt. Young music prodigies also feature in the line-up: At all of 17 years of age, visually-impaired violinist Sophie Soon will join The Sam Willows for a reinterpretation of their hit single, Glasshouse. Winners from MediaCorp Symphony 92.4FM Young Talents Project 2014 will lift spirits with music from beloved animated film Frozen, while Yan Neil Chan from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of music in NUS will collaborate with visually-impaired pianist Robert Tan.

As with every edition of PSC, there will be celebrity challenges. This year, expect a Tonight Show-style lip synch battle featuring Chua Enlai, Pierre Png, Nadia M Din and Suhaimi Yusoff; a version of So You Think They Can’t Dance? with a celebrity dance battle that includes Ian Fang, James Seah and Jayley Woo; and even an acapella group challenge with singers like Tay Ping Hui, Vanessa Fernandez, Tabitha Nauser and Shabir.

Performance artiste Miyoko Shida Rigolo will also entrance the audience with a gravity-defying zen Japanese dance.

This year’s PSC will be hosted by Gurmit Singh and Joanne Peh and will be telecast live on Sunday, Nov 2 on Channel 5, 7.30pm to 10pm. The encore telecast will be on Channel 5 on Sunday, Nov 9, from 4pm to 6.30pm.
