SINGAPORE — Actor David Bala, known within the Indian community as “Comedy King”, has passed away at the age of 67 due to heart disease.
SINGAPORE — Actor David Bala, known within the Indian community as “Comedy King”, has passed away at the age of 67 due to heart disease.
In an announcement posted on MediaCorp TV Vasantham’s Facebook page, the station lauded Bala’s 38 years of working in the arts.
His career began in 1976 on the stage and in 1979, he went on the airwaves starring in the radio drama Kaatchiyum Kaanamum. In 1980, he made his television debut playing the lead in Ippadiyum Oru Kudumbam, the comedy drama that earned him the title “Comedy King”.
He is also well known for his roles in the Jack Neo movies Just Follow Law, Ah Long Pte Ltd and The Ghosts Must Be Crazy.
He was a recipient of the Singapore Indian Artistes’ Association’s Kalaichemmal (Arts Medallion) in 1980, as well as of a Pradhana Vizha Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
