Yvonne Lim and Alex Tien say ‘I do’

SINGAPORE – “Thank you for not letting me go.”

SINGAPORE – “Thank you for not letting me go.”

Those were the touching words Yvonne Lim had for her groom and husband-to-be, Alex Tien, at their wedding solemnisation ceremony yesterday (Sept 6), at Ritz Carlton hotel. The groom, in turn, promised his bride that he would use the rest of his life to “care and love’ for his wife and child.

During their brief press conference held with the local media this evening, before their 49-table banquet dinner, Lim shared that she felt “very touched” by Tien’s vows yesterday. It was a very emotional affair for the newly-weds and a few tears were shed too, she said.

While Tien appeared “zen” on the outside, the groom shared that he was panicking inside and “most worried about exchanging vows.”

“I can’t remember it at all! I’m afraid I’d mess it up,” he chuckled. “This is my first time writing vows and I had to google and research on it too. I saw a lot of samples and I thought that if I had kept it simple, Yvonne would kill me (laughs). And it wouldn’t work if it’s too long too.”

The couple are currently expecting their first child together and officially became man and wife yesterday. They exchanged vows in a private ceremony that was attended by close friends and family members, including showbiz friends Zheng Geping and Hong Huifang.

“I cried a few times yesterday, and I started tearing when I saw my close friends crying. When I saw Huifang jie crying, I started crying with her too. I even took her used tissue to dab my eyes at one point in time,” she laughed.

In July, the actress confirmed news of her pregnancy and shared that she is expecting her first child with Alex. Currently five months pregnant, a tiny bulge was spotted beneath Lim’s wedding gown in the photos. The parents-to-be acted coy when probed on the baby’s gender and Lim simply said, “Most people have told me they think I’m expecting a boy,” without divulging any other details.

The actress also shared that her wedding dress had to be altered 8cm bigger to fit her current figure. “I’ve never been over 50kg, but now I weigh over 50kg. I’m a bit nervous and I’ve been measuring my stomach growth every day,” she chuckled, when asked on how she’s coping with her pregnancy.

The mother-to-be is thankful to be spared the experience of morning sickness and said she intends to resume work in the second-half of 2015.

According to Lim, over 90 of Tien’s friends flew in from Taipei to celebrate the happy occasion with them. In-lieu with her husband’s upcoming birthday on Sept 12, she planned a surprise celebration and the couple had the opportunity to play hosts to the group yesterday night by catering a double-decker city tour bus to bring them around Singapore.

As most of their overseas friends are fans of Hainanese chicken rice, the couple also made special adjustments to their banquet menu and have included our local delight as the last dish of the night.

“For wedding favours, we prepared pineapple tarts from both Singapore and Taiwan for our guests too,” she said.

So what’s right on top of their to-do list after tonight’s festivities are over?

“I think I really need a good massage,” she laughed. “Apparently pregnant women are not supposed to go for massage until 5 months later. I just met my fifth month and I can go for my massage. And I need that,” said Lim as Tien quipped, “I think I need a really good sleep (Laughs).”

Celebrity pals like Zoe Tay, Xiang Yun, Huang Biren, Chen Hanwei, Aileen Tan, Phyllis Quek and Carole Lin, just to name a few, were in attendance at the wedding dinner.
