The Beatles like we’ve never seen them before

SINGAPORE — The Beatles were not only innovators in song, they had also inadvertently help change the way we enjoy music visually.

After The Beatles stopped touring in 1966, the band was forced to find new ways to promote new releases globally, which led them to create what could be described as “mini movies”.

These pioneering promotional films and videos will be seen in a new re-release of The Beatles 1, a compilation album featuring the band’s 27 No 1 United Kingdom and United States singles released between 1962 and 1970, that was first issued in 2000. This time, it also contains the 27 videos for each of the songs in CD+DVD or CD+Blu-ray editions.

The videos are all restored videos with new stereo and 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS HD surround audio mixes.

Showcasing the band’s filmed work to accompany their hits, The Beatles 1 revisited is newly restored and expanded in multiple configurations for global release on Nov 6 by Apple Corps Ltd/UMG. (The initial album released 15 years ago became that decade’s bestselling album worldwide.)

Along with this release is The Beatles 1+, a collection that celebrates their career via 50 promotional films and videos. This includes the 27 tracks from The Beatles 1, but comes with a second disc of 23 videos, including alternate versions, as well as rarely seen and newly restored films and videos.

There will also be an audio-only re-release of The Beatles 1 made available with new stereo mixes. A two-LP, 180-gram vinyl package will follow.

According to the official statement, these videos helped to define the way we have come to watch music, “not least because The Beatles approached filming with the same ease and innovative spirit they brought to the recording studio, exploring new creative possibilities with infectious delight”.

The Beatles 1 and The Beatles 1+ is set to hit stores on Nov 6.
