Louder (R5) | 2/5
SINGAPORE - Unless you are some 13-year-old fan-girl and in love with Ross Lynch’s charming looks, you would probably find R5’s latest album immature, repetitive and even annoying. Louder features 11 tracks, and most of the songs are in the up-beat tempo with hints of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. Forget About You is reminiscent of Bieber’s Thought Of You. Love Me Like That and I Want You Bad are also suspiciously similar to Cher Lloyd’s I Want You Back. No doubt lead singer Ross has a unique tone to his voice, but the album did not do him justice. R5 may just be trying too hard to impress, which leaves us thinking: Is this all a joke? If R5 wants to stay in the game, it needs to identify and define itself more clearly. For now, you can pass this by.
