Artistes act out in class!

SINGAPORE — Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! It’s that time of year once again — when our MediaCorp artistes go back to school. Even professionals need a refresher course now and then, and so our artistes have just completed a nine-day class conducted by the Beijing Film Academy’s Feng Yuan Zheng.

We sat in on the last session last Friday (Oct 31) and, well, let’s just say that even we are better actors now — and we’re sure attendees Tracy Lee, Paige Chua, Rebecca Lim, Zhang Zhen Huan, Priscelia Chan, Ian Fang, Jeffrey Xu, James Seah, Jayley Woo, Somaline Ang and Tay Ping Hui are, too. And even some of the directors turned out for this class, so there was lots of useful discussion for all involved.

The warm-up session had the artistes on their feet miming the throwing and receiving of a basketball — trust us, it’s harder than it looks.

In the first exercise, pairs of artistes acted out secret motivations in a charades game that the others had to take guesses about.

Then, two actors sat in chairs opposite each other and acted out a scenario replacing all dialogue with the line, “I hate you”. At the end of the session, everyone was exhausted and tearing from the effort. It’s a tough life, being an actor, okay?

Check out the video to see what went down.
