SINGAPORE - MediaCorp TV Channel 8’s programming line-up will soon be tweaked to better engage viewers in current affairs topics.

Starting Oct 20, a new hour-long news and current affairs talk show titled Hello Singapore will air on weekday evenings at 6.30pm. It will be hosted by a rotating team of presenters comprising Good Morning Singapore hosts QiQi and Kenneth Kong together with Guo Liang and You Yi.

Following Hello Singapore at 7.30pm will be a 190-episode half-hour drama, 118. Set in a Tiong Bahru coffeeshop, the cast includes Chew Chor Meng, Pan Ling Ling, Dennis Chew, Ya Hui and Xu Bin. Episodes will be filmed as close as two weeks to their airing date, allowing for the incorporation of current social issues and hot topics into the storyline. Viewers will also be able to submit their accounts of incidents happening around them as story ideas.

Channel 8 Branding and Promotions Vice-President, Paul Chan said: “The two new programmes will explore issues that concern you and me, presented in a highly interactive format. We hope to bring viewers a timebelt that will truly resonate with their lives.”

As part of the change taking place at the channel, current affairs show Good Morning Singapore, which has been on since March 1995, will air its final episode on Aug 29.

Weekday mornings will see a new half-hour news programme, Morning Express, beginning Sep 1 at 9am. Along with local financial and social news, the show will have an emphasis on international and regional news.
