SINGAPORE — The all-star cast of Mediacorp TV Channel 8’s mid-year blockbuster drama The Dream Job have just started filming for the show, in which Hong Kong-based actor Hugo Ng plays a rich philanderer who, as he nears the end of his life, attempts to lure his long-lost illegitimate children back to the fold by promising them a high-paying dream job.

The show was conceptualised by Hong Kong’s Anna Lee and Sun Hao Hao, who were responsible for popular TVB dramas such as Heart Of Greed, so you know it’s going to be full of guilty-pleasure plotting, scheming and all-around melodrama — a fun challenge for all the actors.

Yes, the stars — who include Shaun Chen, Rebecca Lim, Jeanette Aw, Pan Ling Ling, Aileen Tan, Romeo Tan and Ian Fang — might seem to be living the dream now, but, besides acting and looking glamorous, there are other things they dream of getting paid to do. Such as sleeping. And eating. Oh, and why not a spot of shopping, while we’re at it? Of course, trust some of them to be especially fussy about the details.

SHAUN CHEN: I would like to get paid to eat Hokkien mee. The black one — Kuala Lumpur style. It’s not easily available in Singapore, so when I go back to my kampong hometown, I eat a packet every day. It’s very fattening, so I also go to the gym and play badminton a lot.

ROMEO TAN: I’d like to get paid to travel. For now, the furthest I can go is Bangkok because I can’t get enough time off. I want to go to the North Pole. I’ve seen a lot of pictures and it looks beautiful, especially Hallstatt, Austria.

REBECCA LIM: I’d like to get paid to do nothing. On my days off, I really just do nothing. I hibernate, stay in bed, watch TV, and when it’s time to eat, my mum calls me for dinner. The most physical thing I do is walk my dog. An ideal hourly rate? Well, there’s no ceiling for that. The higher the better.

ZHANG ZHEN HUAN: Food tasting. I think I would be very professional. I am like a goldfish — even when I’m stuffed, I keep on eating. My New Year resolution is to lose five kilograms before March. My mother used to say: “Eat more. You’re so skinny”. She doesn’t say that anymore.

IAN FANG: I would like to get paid for sleeping. I really like to sleep. My mum always says: “If you asked me to choose between sex and sleep, I would choose sleep”. I totally agree. Ideally, I’d get paid S$50 an hour — I think that’s a reasonable rate. People get paid to test dog food and ride water slides. So, maybe if someone invents a new mattress, and pays me to sleep on it, that would be a win-win situation. (“Are you good at sleeping?” we asked.) I’m good at everything.

BONNIE LOO: Buying clothes. All girls like shopping. At least once a month, I set aside a day to go shopping and update my wardrobe. Clothes, shoes, makeup, (beauty) masks — I buy everything at one go. I bring a trolley along to hold it all.

SHEILA SIM: I’d be happy to get paid to travel. Not as an air stewardess, because you have to serve people. More like, travelling the world for free: Country tasting, like food tasting. When I go on holidays, I like to experience places the local way. Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Greece, Italy — there are so many places I want to go but so little time.

The Dream Job airs starting June 27, weekdays at 9pm on Mediacorp TV Channel 8.
