SINGAPORE — The nominees for the Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artistes for this year’s Star Awards were announced today (March 3).

A total of 40 nominees were announced. These included three first-timers for Popular Male Artistes — Aloysius Pang, Chua Enlai and Jeffrey Xu — and Sheila Sim was the only first-time nominee in the Popular Female Artistes list.

Three artistes in the nominees list have also received nine Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artiste Awards: Actor Elvin Ng and actresses Joanne Peh and Quan Yi Fong.

The final 10 winners for both male and female artistes will be decided via public voting.

The 22nd year of the Star Awards will take place on April 17 and 24 and will be broadcast on Mediacorp TV Channel 8 (simulcast on Channel U and Toggle).

There have been a few changes: A new category, the Best Evergreen Artiste prize, will be awarded to artistes over 50 years of age, with over 25 years’ experience in the industry, who have made exceptional contributions to local entertainment.

Meanwhile, the Best Variety, Best Info-Ed and Best Infotainment Host categories have been consolidated into one category, that of Best Programme Host.

Finally, this will be the final year that Favourite Male and Female Characters and Favourite Onscreen Couple online awards will be given out.
