Unlucky Jeanette Aw

SINGAPORE — The title of long-form drama 118 may boast an auspicious-sounding set of numbers, but Season Two’s new cast member Jeanette Aw’s experiences on set — and back home — have been a little less than lucky.

SINGAPORE — The title of long-form drama 118 may boast an auspicious-sounding set of numbers, but Season Two’s new cast member Jeanette Aw’s experiences on set — and back home — have been a little less than lucky.

On October 24, the 37-year-old actress, who plays feisty gang leader Li Tai Mei, shared an Instagram post detailing her harrowing brush with a glass door panel that shattered when she pushed it. Thankfully, she escaped with minor flesh wounds.

“I was fortunate because in that scene, I had just taken a shower so I was carrying a large towel, the shards only left scratches and bruises on my skin,” she recounted at a recent press conference. “It made me wonder if the glass panel was too fragile or if I was too strong!”

That was not Aw’s only accident on set. A few days ago, she was shooting a fight sequence in a cafe when she stumbled while trying to leap over a countertop (which was covered in slippery substances) and injured her foot. However, she remained professional and quietly continued with her scene without kicking up a fuss. “I don’t think anyone knows I got hurt!” she chuckled.

With many more episodes left to film (about 60 of 218 have been done), is she taking any special precautions to avoid more mishaps?

“I’ve always been careful and aware of my surroundings, but sometimes you can’t predict what will happen,” she said, adding that her assistant is always armed with a small first-aid kit. “But I’m totally fine now.”

If timing had been on Jeanette’s side, she would have had a lovely, freshly refurbished home to retreat to after each day on set.

Unfortunately, what her interior designer initially said would be completed in six weeks stretched to three months, and the revamp was only finished last week when filming for 118 was already well underway.

“After a long day of work, I have no mood to clean up, so there are boxes all over the place and I’m living in a mess,” she lamented. “I have had no time to enjoy my newly renovated place to the fullest!”

Despite the headache the house developments have been giving her, Aw beamed when describing its made-over look.

“The style is very clean — it used to be woody, but now it’s all marble,” she said. “I’ve thought about what I wanted ever since I moved in years ago, and now I really have them all, such as a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom!”

But do not expect her to throw a big housewarming party.

“I’m a very private person and I’m not someone who likes to invite everyone over,” she explained. She also denied that the renovation was a sign of good news — for example, marriage. “I just wanted to live in a more comfortable environment!” TAMMI TAN/TOGGLE
