SINGAPORE — Ya Hui and Shane Pow might play lovers in House Of Fortune, but in real life, there’s more fighting than loving between these two over-familiar pals.

“We fought a lot, about anything and everything. It’s our way of communicating,” said Ya Hui, laughing. “There was one scene in which we were holding mineral water bottles in our hands. It was the last shot of the day so I poured the water all over him. But in the end it wasn’t captured on film because the producer had called ‘cut’ but nobody stopped us so we just carried on acting. That’s our extreme kind of communication.”

“She was really mean to me,” Pow complained, sharing that what the camera didn’t capture was Ya Hui deliberately digging her nails into him as they embraced. “She waited until ‘action’ was called to do it. And we had to have sweet smiles on our faces.”

“He bullies me too,” Ya Hui said in defence. “He’d pinch my cheeks while the camera was rolling.”

So was it just a whole lot of scratching, pinching and fighting then? “It’s about revenge,” Ya Hui asserted. “See who can tahan the most.”

She then helpfully demonstrated on this reporter her method of pinching one’s arm while saying ‘I love you’.

Thanks, Ya Hui, but we think we’ll stay out of this abusive relationship, if it’s all the same to you and Shane. MAY SEAH

Catch House Of Fortune starting Jan 19, weekdays at 9pm on Mediacorp TV Channel 8.
