According to a recent survey by home appliance brand Electrolux, Singapore’s foodies describe their skills as “limited” or “disastrous”.
Among the findings are: 93 per cent are passionate about food but 65 per cent described their skills as “limited” or “a disaster”. Many prefer to eat at home (80 per cent) but only a few have the confidence to move beyond recipes (35 per cent). Around 36 per cent of those who cook are also self-taught.
The Electrolux Asia Pacific Food Survey, on food preparation, cooking and dining habits, was first launched in 2007. It is touted as one of the region’s largest food surveys, with a total sample size of 5,000 from 10 countries: Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
