SINGAPORE — The Embassy of Russia in Singapore has announced that it will be flying the National Flag at half-mast tomorrow (March 29) to mark Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s State Funeral.

Yesterday, the Russian Embassy’s verified Twitter account also posted that the First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov will be in Singapore to attend Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s State Funeral.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had sent their condolences on Monday.

The late Mr Lee was a man of the “highest international influence”, said Mr Putin, adding that Mr Lee was a “consistent supporter of developing friendly relations between Russia and Singapore and a leader who made a great personal contribution to strengthening the two countries’ mutually advantageous bilateral cooperation”.

Mr Medvedev described Mr Lee’s death as a “great loss”.

“The history of Singapore’s independence is inextricably linked with the name of their first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. He was the creator of the modern model of the national economy and thanks to him, the authority of the country in the regional and international arena was strengthened,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
