SINGAPORE — A fund-raising philanthropy programme by the Singapore Children’s Society has raised nearly S$400,000 since its soft launch in February.
The programme, 1000 Philanthropists, targets individuals who want to contribute to the society and hopes to “unite like-minded individuals to celebrate and honour their support to the society’s cause”. To date, it has 132 philanthropists — anyone who donates at least S$1,000 over a year — supporting the programme.
“The results have been very encouraging to us. We are targeting to raise S$3 million with this programme.” said Mr Kurt Wee, Chairman, Appeals Standing Committee, Singapore Children’s Society this morning (May 20).
Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, is the Patron of the programme.
In 2009, the Singapore’s Children Society launched a corporate fund-raising programme named 1000 Enterprises, targeted at companies. The programme received overwhelming results, inspiring the launch of 1000 Philanthropists.
