SINGAPORE — Two people were killed while another is hospitalised when the car they were travelling in crashed into a pillar near the rear gate of the Istana on Saturday (Dec 16) morning.

The Singapore Police Force said that they were alerted to the accident along Cavenagh Road at 6.06am.

It is believed the car was travelling at a high speed and the impact of the crash saw a metal gate of the Istana back entrance being dislodged and landed about 10 metres away.

“The driver, a 25-year-old man, and one passenger, a 21-year-old woman, were unconscious when they were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital,” the police said. They subsequently died from their injuries.

The police identified the driver as Khairul Anwar.

TODAY understands that the female passenger was in the back seat of the car during the accident.

The other passenger, a 28-year-old man, was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

It is not clear how the three people were related. Media reports suggested that the driver may have been drunk at the time of the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing.
