2013 A-Level results best since curriculum modified

SINGAPORE — More than nine in 10 students who sat for last year’s GCE A-Level examinations scored at least three Higher 2 (H2)-level passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry — the best results since the first cohort of candidates sat for the examinations under the modified curriculum in 2007.

SINGAPORE — More than nine in 10 students who sat for last year’s GCE A-Level examinations scored at least three Higher 2 (H2)-level passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry — the best results since the first cohort of candidates sat for the examinations under the modified curriculum in 2007.

About 91.1 per cent of the 13,936 students who sat for the examinations last year secured these passes, bettering the performance of the 2010 cohort, of which 90.8 per cent achieved the same result. Last year’s cohort also fared slightly better than the 2012 cohort of 14,025 students, where 90.6 per cent achieved at least three H2 passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry.

Meanwhile, Hwa Chong Institution also recorded its best results since the start of the Integrated Programme seven years ago. Close to 20 per cent of its cohort achieved the maximum University Admission Score of 90 points. Subjects that count towards the University Admission Score are General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry, Project Work as well as three H2 and one H1 content-based subjects, of which one must be a subject that is outside a student’s main area of specialisation. More than six in 10 of its graduates also attained three H2 distinctions and above.

Raffles Institution saw 27 per cent of its cohort of 1,239 students who sat for the A-Level examinations attain the maximum score of 90 points. In addition, 170 students achieved distinctions in all the subjects offered, including the higher-level H3 subjects.
