SINGAPORE – The Singapore Airshow – touted as Asia’s largest aerospace and defence event – is roaring back into town. After a week of wheeling and dealing as sales agreements and partnerships were inked, this event is finally opened to the public this weekend.

If you are making the trip down to Changi Exhibition Centre for the Airshow, here are five things you must not miss:

RSAF F-16 FLIGHT SIMULATOR

Hop on the F-16 flight simulator at the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pavilion and experience – albeit virtually – how it’s like to pilot this state of the art fighter jet. The simulator is a collaboration between RSAF and Boeing and aerospace enthusiasts are urged to make this their first stop.

WINGS GALORE AT STATIC AIRCRAFT DISPLAY

This year’s Airshow boats a massive 100,000 sqm of space for static aircraft display. Admire a wide selection of aircraft from the RSAF, US Air Force, and top aviation companies like Boeing and Airbus. Look out for a full-scale mock-up of Lockheed Martin’s F-35B Lightning II, a firm fan favourite in the 2014 and 2016 editions.

AEROBATICS DISPLAY

Keep your eyes peeled to the sky as fans can expect more thrilling aerial displays this year due to RSAF’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The show will also see one F-15SG and two F-16C fighter aircraft doing an integrated display — the first time that this is done. Out of 15 manoeuvres in a 15-minute segment, six will be performed together and seen by the public for the first time. Definitely not one for the faint-hearted.

Show Times: Saturday, Feb 10 (11:30am - 12:15pm; 2:30pm - 3:15pm), and Sunday, Feb 11 (11:30am - 12:10pm; 2:30pm - 3:15pm)

CHECK OUT THE AIRBUS A350-1000 AIRLINER

This is one aircraft you simply can’t miss. The A350-1000 airliner is Airbus’ longest-fuselage version of its all-new XWB family of twin-aisle, widebody jetliners. The plane, which can seat 366 passengers comfortably, is making its debut here. Be one of the firsts in the world to take in its majestic beauty.

THE ALL-NEW F-35B LIGHTNING II

The ultimate boys’ toys, the fifth generation F-35B Lightning II has been unveiled for the first time in Singapore. The state-of-the-art machine comes with stealth capabilities and a sleek design to boot.
